What moves from PrestaShop

PrestaShop data can be pulled from the admin's CSV exports, the Webservice API or directly from the database. We decide which route to use in the audit, based on your version and modules.

Moves over

  • Products, combinations (variants) and images
  • Categories, as Shopify collections
  • Manufacturers and features, as metafields
  • Customers and addresses
  • Order history
  • CMS pages and meta title and description fields

Stays behind

  • Customer passwords (an activation email is sent)
  • PrestaShop theme and module settings
  • Module-specific tables (equivalents are set up separately)

Yeniden kurulur

  • Payment modules (Shopify Payments, PayPal and local methods)
  • Carriers and pricing rules
  • Cart rules and coupons
  • Multistore setup, with Shopify Markets
  • Marketplace and accounting connections

PrestaShop URLs and their Shopify equivalents

PrestaShop's friendly URL pattern adds an ID number to product and category URLs; Shopify doesn't use these numbers. That's why every URL has to be mapped individually. The rows below are examples based on the default pattern.

PrestaShop and Shopify side by side

Both platforms are capable. The difference is who keeps the store running.

What we pay close attention to

Combinations and features are set up differently in every store, so we plan these areas in advance.

  • Combinations

We map PrestaShop combinations to Shopify options and variants, with their stock and barcodes.

  • Features

Product features become metafields that can be used for filtering.

  • Multi-language content

Product names and descriptions in each language move to Shopify's translation structure.

  • ID-based URLs

Every product, category and CMS URL with an ID is 301 redirected from a crawled list.

  • Customer groups

Price and discount groups are rebuilt with customer tags and discount rules.

  • Payments

Shopify Payments, PayPal and the local methods your markets expect.

Common mistakes in PrestaShop migrations

We check each of these in the audit.

  1. 01Redirecting by product name alone without accounting for the IDs in URLs
  2. 02Importing combinations without considering Shopify's option limits
  3. 03Leaving language-coded URLs (/en/, /de/) off the redirect list
  4. 04Shutting down the old server before redirects are verified

Questions about PrestaShop migration

Can't find the answer you're looking for? Get in touch directly.

Will my Google rankings drop when I move from PrestaShop to Shopify?

Losses are kept to a minimum when every old URL is 301 redirected to its Shopify equivalent and meta titles and descriptions are preserved. Because PrestaShop URLs contain IDs, we build the redirect list by crawling your site.

Which PrestaShop versions do you migrate from?

Versions 1.6, 1.7, 8 and 9. Older versions use a different data structure, so we confirm the method in the audit.

How are my product combinations moved?

Each combination becomes a variant on Shopify, with attributes such as colour and size set up as options. For products with many options, we plan the structure together in advance.

Do customer passwords move over?

No. For security reasons, passwords can't be read from any platform. Customer records move with their addresses, and after launch your customers receive a planned account activation email to set a new password.

Will my store go offline during the migration?

No. The Shopify store is built separately, and your PrestaShop store keeps selling until the domain is switched over.

How is the migration priced?

Based on product and order volume, integrations and design scope. We send a written quote after the audit; we don't publish package prices.
