Migrate to Shopify

Ecwid to Shopify migration

We move your Ecwid store to Shopify with your products, variants, customers and order history, and connect every old product and category URL to its new address. You go from a shop embedded in another website to a full Shopify store managed from one admin.

What moves from Ecwid

Ecwid lets you export product and customer lists as CSV from the admin, and we use the Ecwid API for order history and detailed fields. Data is mapped row by row to Shopify's product, customer and order model.

Moves over

  • Products, options and variant combinations
  • Product images and gallery order
  • Categories, as Shopify collections
  • Customer records and addresses
  • Order history
  • SEO titles, descriptions and product URLs

Stays behind

  • Customer passwords (an activation email is sent)
  • Ecwid-specific storefront look and widget placement
  • Ecwid's own app settings

Yeniden kurulur

  • Payment methods (Shopify Payments, PayPal and local methods)
  • Shipping zones and rate rules
  • Discount codes and promotion rules
  • Tax settings
  • Marketing and email integrations

From an embedded shop to a standalone store

Ecwid often runs embedded as a plugin in WordPress, Wix or another site. That means the shop and the site content are managed in two different places. On Shopify, products, pages, blog and theme come together in one admin, and your store runs on its own domain, with its own theme and its own search signals.

  • One admin and one theme for site and store
  • Product pages on your main domain, not in an embedded frame
  • Blog and company pages in the same place
  • Extend it with the Shopify App Store

Ecwid URLs and their Shopify equivalents

With Ecwid's clean URLs, product URLs usually end with the product name, -p and the product ID, and category URLs with -c and the category ID. Each one is 301 redirected to its Shopify equivalent; the real list is built by crawling your site during the audit.

About old #! (hashbang) URLs

In older Ecwid setups, product URLs may look like shop.html#!/p/123. Because everything after the # isn't sent to the server, these URLs can't be handled with a standard 301. In that case we first check which URLs Google has indexed, then look at options such as leaving a small redirect script on the old page.

Avoid

What to avoid in an Ecwid migration

These are on our pre-launch checklist.

  1. 01Removing the old page that hosted the embedded shop without leaving a redirect
  2. 02Importing product options without mapping them to Shopify's option and variant model
  3. 03Leaving URLs on an Ecwid subdomain or Instant Site off the redirect list
  4. 04Skipping image order and alt text in the import
  5. 05Not submitting the new sitemap to Search Console after the domain switch

Questions about Ecwid migration

Can't find the answer you're looking for? Get in touch directly.

How long does an Ecwid to Shopify migration take?

It depends on the number of products, the variant structure, order history and the integrations to set up. After the audit we give you a written schedule.

Will my Ecwid store close during the migration?

No. Your Shopify store is built and tested separately. Your Ecwid store keeps selling until the domain is switched over.

Will my Google rankings drop?

Rankings are protected when every old product and category URL is 301 redirected to its new address. In the weeks after launch we track indexing in Search Console.

Do customer passwords move over?

No. For security reasons, no platform exports passwords. Customer records move, and customers receive an activation email to set a new password.

I use Ecwid on my WordPress site. What happens to the site?

Usually we move the site content to Shopify too and bring everything into one store. You can also keep WordPress as a blog and move only the store to Shopify; we compare both options in the audit.

Will my order history come over?

Yes. Past orders are imported linked to customer records, so your customers can see their old orders in their accounts.
