An Instagram feed on your store does two things: it shows visitors that real people use and like your products, and it keeps pages fresh without extra work. Here's how to add one, and how to make it earn its place.
Option 1: An Instagram feed app
This is the most common route. Several apps on the Shopify App Store connect to your Instagram account and add a feed block to your theme.
- Search the Shopify App Store for "Instagram feed" and compare apps on reviews, features and how they load.
- Install the app and connect your Instagram professional account.
- Choose the layout: grid, slider, number of posts, and whether to show captions.
- In Online Store → Themes → Customize, add the app's block or section where you want it, usually on the home page or a product page.
- Save and check it on mobile.
Option 2: A theme section
Some themes include a social or Instagram section. If yours does, connect your account in the section settings. Check how it loads images, since built-in sections vary in efficiency.
Option 3: Curated images instead of a live feed
If speed or control matters most, add a simple image gallery section with selected posts, each linking to Instagram or to the product shown. It needs manual updates, but loads fast and shows only your best content.
Make the feed shoppable
Many feed apps let you tag products in each post, so a visitor who likes a photo can click through to the product. This turns the feed from decoration into a path to purchase. For selling directly inside Instagram, see connecting Shopify to Instagram Shopping.
Where to place it
- Home page, lower down: social proof after the main products.
- Product pages: posts featuring that product, if your app can filter by tag.
- A dedicated "shop the look" page for fashion and home brands.
Avoid putting the feed at the top of the page, where it competes with your products and slows the first view.
Keep it fast
- Choose an app that lazy-loads images
- Show a modest number of posts, such as 6 to 12
- Check your speed before and after (speed guide)
Use customer content
Posts from real customers are more persuasive than brand photos. Encourage tagging with a branded hashtag, ask permission before reposting, and credit the creator.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a business or creator account?
Most feed apps connect through Meta's official API, which generally works with professional (business or creator) Instagram accounts. Check the app's requirements.
Will an Instagram feed slow down my store?
It can, because it loads images and scripts. Choose an app that lazy-loads the feed and place it lower on the page rather than at the top.
Can I show posts from customers?
Yes, with permission. User-generated content apps let you collect tagged posts, request rights from the creator and display them on the store.
