The monthly cost of a Shopify store is never just the plan price. On top of the subscription you pay card processing, a transaction fee if you use a third-party payment provider, and whatever apps and themes you add. This guide sets out the 2026 plans and shows how to work out the real monthly cost for your store.
Prices below are the US dollar amounts on Shopify's official pricing page. Shopify uses regional pricing in some countries, so the amount in your admin may differ. Check the plan selection screen in your store for the exact figure.
Shopify plans and monthly prices in 2026
| Plan | Billed yearly (per month) | Billed monthly | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $5 | Selling through social media and messaging; no full online store theme | |
| Basic | $29 | $39 | New stores run by one person |
| Grow | $79 | $105 | Brands with steady sales and a small team |
| Advanced | $299 | $399 | High revenue, advanced reporting and a larger team |
| Plus | From $2,300 | Enterprise volume, B2B and checkout customisation | |
Paying yearly saves roughly 25% on the plan price. The middle plan that used to be called simply "Shopify" is now Grow; its features and position in the line-up are the same.
The free trial
New stores can try Shopify free for 3 days, then pay $1 a month for the first 3 months on the chosen plan. That is enough time to set up payments, the theme and your products. The full plan price applies from the fourth month.
The key differences between plans
| Basic | Grow | Advanced | Plus | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Third-party transaction fee | 2% | 1% | 0.6% | 0.2% |
| Staff accounts | — | 5 | 15 | Unlimited |
| Shopify Payments online card rate (US) | 2.9% + 30¢ | 2.7% + 30¢ | 2.5% + 30¢ | 2.25% + 30¢ |
The card rates in the table are for Shopify Payments in the United States. Rates differ by country, so check the figures shown for your store's country in the admin.
Shopify Payments or a third-party provider?
Where Shopify Payments is available, it is usually the cheapest option: you pay only the card rate and Shopify waives its transaction fee. If you take payments through another provider instead (because Shopify Payments isn't available in your country, or because you need a specific local payment method), each order carries two costs:
- The provider's own fee, set by your agreement with them.
- Shopify's transaction fee: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus.
Wallets such as PayPal can run alongside Shopify Payments. Which fees apply to each method is listed in your store's payment settings, so check there before you decide.
Worked example: which plan costs less?
The higher the plan, the lower the transaction fee. Above a certain monthly revenue, the saving on transaction fees covers the difference in plan price. Using the yearly prices, for a store that pays the third-party transaction fee:
- Basic → Grow: the plan difference is $50 a month and the fee difference is 1%. Grow becomes cheaper once monthly revenue passes about $5,000.
- Grow → Advanced: the plan difference is $220 a month and the fee difference is 0.4%. The break-even point is about $55,000 in monthly revenue.
For example, a store with $8,000 in monthly revenue pays $160 in transaction fees on Basic ($189 in total). On Grow the fee drops to $80 ($159 in total). The payment provider's own fee applies on both plans. With Shopify Payments, the comparison is about the lower card rate on higher plans, and the break-even points are much higher.

Costs not included in the plan price
- Domain name: bought yearly, from Shopify or another registrar.
- Paid theme: you can start with a free theme; paid themes on the Theme Store are a one-off payment.
- Apps: most apps for reviews, email, subscriptions or marketplaces are billed monthly.
- Payment fees: card rates or your provider's fee, as above.
- Shipping, accounting and tax tools: depending on where you sell.
Which plan should you start on?
For most new stores, Basic is enough. Once sales are steady and monthly revenue approaches the break-even point above, moving to Grow makes sense. You change plans in the admin, and nothing in your products, theme or orders is lost. If you need very high volume, B2B selling or a customised checkout, look at Shopify Plus.
