You connected your Shopify store to Merchant Center to start Google Shopping, products synced, and a few days later the account was suspended for Misrepresentation. The notice doesn't say what to fix. It's one of the most common problems for new Shopify stores, especially dropshipping and print-on-demand stores.
Because Google doesn't point to a specific page or product, the fix is to work through what Google checks, systematically. This guide gives you that checklist and explains the review process.
What the policy covers
Google's Merchant Center policy aims to keep listings clear and honest so people can make informed decisions. In short, it doesn't allow:
- Unacceptable business practices: hiding or misrepresenting business, product or service information, impersonating brands, or implying an affiliation or endorsement that doesn't exist.
- Dishonest pricing and transaction conditions: hiding the full price, shipping or return costs, delivery times or refund restrictions.
- Unavailable offers: listing products or promotions you can't fulfil, including misrepresenting where items ship from to suggest local stock or fast delivery.
- Unreliable claims: improbable results and unsupported health claims.
Google can review your website, your accounts and third-party sources. A clean product feed won't lift a suspension if the website itself fails these checks.
9 things to check on your Shopify store
- Real business details: your business name, a real address and a working contact method (email, phone or form) on the site, matching the business information in Merchant Center. In Shopify, add these under Settings > Policies in the contact information field.
- Return policy: the return window, who pays return shipping and how to start a return, all stated clearly. See how to write a return policy for a structure.
- Shipping policy: processing time, delivery time and shipping costs. If you ship from abroad, say so; Google specifically lists misrepresenting the shipping origin as a violation.
- Privacy policy and terms of service: no leftover template placeholders, another store's name or the wrong country.
- Consistent prices: the product page, cart, checkout and feed should show the same price, with no surprise fees at checkout.
- Stock status: out-of-stock products shouldn't appear as in stock in the feed. If inventory tracking is off in Shopify, every product may be sent as available.
- Product data: your own titles and descriptions, real product images and GTINs where they exist. Copying a supplier's text and images lowers trust.
- Exaggerated claims and fake trust signals: permanent countdown timers, fake reviews, certifications or payment logos you don't actually have.
- A working checkout: no storefront password, an active payment provider and a test order that completes.
Check Merchant Center too
- Make sure your domain is verified and claimed. If you connected through Shopify's Google & YouTube app, this usually happens through the app.
- Your business address, phone number and customer service link should match the website exactly.
- Set up shipping and returns in Merchant Center as well, with values that don't contradict your store policies.
- Clear other warnings under Products > Needs attention. They may not cause the suspension on their own, but they make the review harder.
How to request a review
According to Google's help page, the process has three steps:
- Fix the issue: update your website, remove violating products from your data source and update the product data in Merchant Center.
- Choose a review path: edited products are re-reviewed automatically. If you believe the violation is wrong, submit a standard appeal; you may be asked for a reason or documents.
- Submit the request from the issue in Merchant Center.
Google says account reviews typically take about 7 business days, sometimes longer. Egregious violations, such as deceptive practices, are suspended on detection without warning, and reinstatement only happens in compelling cases. So don't rush the appeal: finish the whole checklist first. A failed bulk appeal can also limit future appeals.
What not to do
- Open a new account: if the problem is on the website, the new account gets suspended too, and multiple accounts can lead to permanent restrictions.
- Only change the feed: Google looks at the live site. If policy pages and contact details are missing, fixing the feed isn't enough.
- Pay for "guaranteed approval": nobody can guarantee Google's decision. The right approach is to fix the gaps and document what you changed.
Summary
Misrepresentation suspensions rarely come from one big mistake. They usually come from several small gaps that reduce trust: missing contact details, unclear return terms, inconsistent prices or delivery times that don't match reality. Close those gaps so your store looks and works like a real business, and your chances at review improve considerably.

Frequently asked questions
What does a Misrepresentation suspension mean?
Google suspends accounts when it can't verify who you are, what you sell or what happens after checkout (price, shipping, returns), or when it finds that information missing or misleading. Google treats some violations as egregious and suspends those without prior warning.
Will Google tell me exactly what's wrong?
Usually not. The notice names the policy but not the page or product. That's why the website, product data and Merchant Center settings need to be audited together.
How long does a review take?
According to Google's help page, account reviews typically take about 7 business days and sometimes longer.
Can I just open a new Merchant Center account?
It isn't recommended. If the issue is on your website or in your product data, a new account will be suspended for the same reason, and creating multiple accounts can lead to permanent restrictions. Fix the issues and request a review on the existing account.
